Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band announce tour dates, new live album

The Southeastern US’s favorite funk institution, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, is hitting the road with a string of tour dates along the East Coast.  Known for their off the wall live performances and dance floor heroics, the Booty Band has become one the countries hottest touring acts, thanks in part to the buzz surrounding their sell-out shows and the success of their award winning debut studio album, Now You Know (independent release).

The Asheville based six-piece dance band exerts an energy that can only be described as infectious and contagious.  Using funk as a foundation, the booty band weaves elements of hip hop, reggae, ska, and latin into the mix, creating a musical identity that is entirely their own, an identity genuine to the band’s passion, fury, and socially conscious philosophy.  This is music for the head and feet and everything in between. This is "Bounce Music."

Comprised of musicians from all over the US, the Booty Band’s unpredictable stage show, constant reshuffling of instruments and crowd rousing antics have helped the band build a veritable army of fans. In the past few years, the Booty Band’s homegrown success has landed them headlining slots at some of the largest festivals, including Wakarusa, Grassroots Festival, Smifest, AMJAM and Jam Cruise 6 to name short few.

In 2007, the band released its debut album, Now You Know, to critical acclaim.  Voted Best Album of 2007 by the Homegrown Music Network, the band also went on to win the "Band of the Year Award" (HGMN) as well as the charting at #3 for best regional album by WNCW, one of the top Triple A stations in the country.

On the current tour, the band is pleased to announce that they will be recording their upcoming performance at Castaway’s in Ithaca, for future release on a forthcoming live album.  The band has already taped live performances at the Orange Peel and the Asheville Civic Center (Vortex Festival), and will be using select tracks from all three shows. The live album, which is already entitled "Greatest Hips Vol. 2, is tentatively scheduled for release this fall.

Members of the Booty Band have also been in the studio collaborating with George Clinton and members of Parliament/Funkadelic, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Galactic, and the the Lee Boys.  The project, which is going under the moniker, The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown, will be making its live debut at the Loki Music Festival, October 10th, at Deerfields in Mills River, NC.  The Booty Band will also be performing at Deerfields on August 8 for the Trinumeral Music Festival and is also scheduled to perform at this years Bele Chere Festival and Floydfest.  For more information on The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown please visit: www.myspace.com/bigolnastygetdown
