Two nights of the Aquarium Rescue Unit in Charlotte

February 16 and 17, 2007

The Aquarium Rescue Unit holds a special place in jamband lore.  Spawned from the Atlanta club scene by Col. Bruce Hampton, the quintessential line-up included Hampton, guitarist Jimmy Herring, bassist Oteil Burbridge, mandolinist Matt Mundy and drummer Jeff Sipe, aka Apt. Q-258.

ARU eventually parted ways in the mid-90's, and the various members went on to other projects.  Mundy retired from music in 1993, while Jimmy Herring had stints with the Allman Brothers, Phil Lesh, and now sits in the lead guitar spot for Widespread Panic.  Oteil Burbridge currently holds the bass spot with the Allmans, and has toured with former Phish keyboard player Page McConnell in Vida Blue.  Sipe was Leftover Salmon's drummer for a spell and is currently backing Trey Anastasio.

The Col. came out of his "retirement" to spawn several bands.  He toured with the Fiji Mariners for a while, started the Codetalkers,  and currently fronts the Quark Alliance.

The band, sans Mundy, reunited at the end of 2006, and in mid-February played a two night run in Charlotte with Codetalker Bobby Lee Rodgers on banjo.  Honest Tune was there for both nights.
