Toubab Krewe embarks on summer tour

Toubab Krewe embarks on summer tour in support of Live at the Orange Pee.  Jamaican legend Earl “Chinna” Smith joins band for select dates.

Toubab Krewe will hit the road this summer for a tour in support of their new album, Live at the Orange Peel, released nationwide on April 7 on Upstream Records/ADA. The tour kicks-off this week at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh and includes performances at some of the biggest and best festivals in the U.S., including Bonnaroo (June 11-14) and ROTHBURY (July 2-5).

Toubab Krewe will also headline two nights at the Festivus for the Restivus (July 17-19), an annual festival thrown by Toubab Krewe bassist Dave Pransky on his family’s farm in Cabot, VT. Other performers at Festivus include Malian superstar Oumou Sangare, Midnite, Barrington Levy and Black Sheep.

Joining Toubab Krewe at Festivus and at select summer tour dates will be legendary Jamaican guitarist Earl “China” Smith. Perhaps the most sought after lead guitarist in reggae, Smith has performed and recorded with everyone from Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh and Burning Spear to more recent pop icons like Lauren Hill, Erykah Badu and Joss Stone. Toubab Krewe recently joined Smith at his home studio in Kingston, where they collaborated on several as-yet unreleased recordings. On his first tour of the U.S. with Toubab Krewe, Smith will join the band on-stage for what are sure to be special collaborations, infusing his diverse talents and influences into Toubab Krewe’s already unique blend of styles.

About Live at the Orange Peel:

Toubab Krewe’s new album has won wide acclaim since its release in April. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Steven Heller, Live at the Orange Peel captures the band’s outstanding 2007-2008 New Year's run. All of the songs are previously unreleased and continue to mix American rock with the West African musical traditions the band fell in love with on their travels. Along the way, they explore the worlds of surf and zydeco, fusing it all together into what the Village Voice describes as "a futuristic, psychedelic, neo-griot frenzy" and Honest Tune hails as "one of the most innovative voices in music today." The new album features collaborations with legendary spoken word artist Umar Bin Hassan of The Last Poets and fiddler Rayna Gellert of Uncle Earl.
