The Infamous Stringdusters take to the slopes for 2013 Ski Tour

The Infamous Stringdusters will take to the slopes this winter with their 2013 Ski Tour, a run of shows that brings the band, and their fans, to the Rocky Mountains’ best U.S. ski towns this winter. The itinerary – which includes stops in Vail, Colorado, Park City, Utah, and Jackson, Wyoming, among others – promises a few days off to hit the slopes. Along for the ride are partners POW (Protect Our Winters), Icelantic Skis, Oskar Blues Brewery, and Mountain Khaki, who will host special events and giveaways along the tour. The full list of 2013 Ski Tour stops is included below.

The Infamous Stringdusters’ 2013 Ski Tour is yet another example of how this talented band is seamlessly and authentically integrating two things they love most: great music and outdoor living. In October, the band celebrated the 3rd installment of The Festy Experience, their annual more-than-music festival featuring outdoor activities like the Blue Ridge Burn, a 5k/10k trail race that winds up old logging roads. Along the band’s recent Fall Tour, the band hosted lunchtime bicycle rides with fans and local bike enthusiasts alike, and made in-store appearances at REI, Blue Ridge Outdoors, and others. Not surprisingly, as the weather turns colder, the Dusters are now ready pull out their skis.

Before hitting the slopes, the band will launch their The Infamous Stringdusters GoPro Live Virtual Tour – with an exclusive video posting at a different online location each week. Filmed during their recent Fall Tour, the videos – recorded on cutting edge GoPro cameras and made by the band members themselves – offer stage perspectives and behind-the-scenes views, set to some of the tour’s epic live musical moments. Visit www.thestringdusters.com for the full Virtual Tour schedule.

For their end-of-year plans, the band recently announced shows in New York City, Philadelphia, and Falls Church, VA, and bid 2012 farewell with a hometown New Year’s Eve show in Charlottesville, VA. The complete list of confirmed tour dates is included below.

The Infamous Stringdusters’ constant, relentless, revelatory musical evolution is on display throughout the band’s new double disc release Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition (October 16, 2012 / High Country Recordings and SCI Fidelity). Working with an unlikely studio partner – hip-hop producer Billy Hume (Ludacris, Nas) – Silver Sky (first released in March of this year) finds The Infamous Stringdusters’ powerful rhythms and vocal melodies at the forefront of the music. Paired with We’ll Do It Live – a seamless live recording culled from four epic 2011 performances – Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition eloquently demonstrates a band whose artistic voice has fully emerged, and offers a riveting glimpse of just how, and where, The Infamous Stringdusters are leading the bluegrass revolution. Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition is available exclusively at independent retail stores throughout the country, with Silver Sky (without the bonus track) and We’ll Do It Live available separately online, and on vinyl at retail stores only.

The Infamous Stringdusters announce ‘Silver Sky Deluxe Edition,’ fall tour

The Infamous Stringdusters’ constant, relentless, revelatory musical evolution – is released on October 16, 2012 in a very special Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition. Delivered by SCI Fidelity and the band’s own High Country label, Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition includes a previously unreleased bonus track, “He’s Gone,” and the bonus live album, We’ll Do It Live.

Fresh off a huge summer with festival plays at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Wakarusa, DelFest, RockyGrass and many others, now The Infamous Stringdusters gear up for a fall tour in support of Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition. But first, the band’s beloved festival, simply dubbed The Festy, celebrates its third year in the secluded hills of Nelson County, VA – with stellar music, flagship outdoor events, tasty local food, and more. Check out the Honest Tune video coverage from last year’s event, HERE — and exclusive acoustic performance footage below.

Working with an unlikely studio partner – hip-hop producer Billy Hume (Ludacris, Nas) – Silver Sky (first released in March of this year) finds The Infamous Stringdusters’ powerful rhythms and vocal melodies at the forefront of the music. Before the release of Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition, the 2012 installment of The Festy Experience, the annual gathering in Nelson County, Virginia hosted and curated by The Infamous Stringdusters, takes place October 5-7, 2012. More than a music festival, the band emphasizes the “experience” aspect with a celebration of outdoor living in an idyllic, consciously intimate natural setting near Charlottesville. Nestled on the private Concert Ground at Devils Backbone Brewing Company, the renowned brewery and full service restaurant serves up food and international award winning microbrews throughout the festival. In addition to the Dusters, the lineup for this year’s Festy includes Trampled By Turtles, Leftover Salmon, Keller & The Keels, Rubblebucket, Lake Street Dive, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, Elephant Revival, and 17 others. For certain, a handcrafted, eye-to-the-details philosophy infuses The Festy Experience, from the carefully chosen lineup of road seasoned kindred spirits to the locally sourced food to outdoor activities like the Blue Ridge Burn, a 5k/10k trail race that winds up old logging roads. More information and tickets available at www.thefesty.com.

After The Festy, The Infamous Stringdusters’ Fall Tour kicks off on the October 16 release date of Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition, at Brooklyn Bowl. Hosted during the CMJ Music Marathon, in partnership with fellow independent music advocates PledgeMusic, Tunecore, and Relix Magazine, the show promises to launch the band’s fall season with a bang. The tour continues on for over 20 dates, winding through parts of the east coast and Midwest, before jumping to the west coast, then wrapping up in the Rocky Mountains in mid-November. In December, the band heads to the Mayan Riviera for Cloud 9 Adventures’ inaugural Strings & Sol. The complete list of confirmed tour dates is included below.

The Infamous Stringdusters are heirs to the transgressive tradition of bluegrass. The band, who recently relocated from Nashville, TN to their new home in Charlottesville, VA, has been quietly amassing a huge and loyal following of fans for seven years. Meanwhile, their exciting impact on the changing face of bluegrass was noticed right out of the gate; the band’s debut album Fork in the Road (2007, Sugar Hill) garnered attention from The International Bluegrass Music Association, who awarded the Stringdusters three major prizes: for song, emerging artist and album of the year.

For certain, The Infamous Stringdusters have spent “a good stretch of time…learning their craft and woodshedding their musical chops” (Lexington Herald). But aside from their stunning musicianship, the musical style that has resulted is how this band is making their mark on music history. “Somehow familiar and timeless, [The Infamous Stringdusters] propel the legacy of bluegrass and string band music into the future with a stunning blend of musical virtuosity and fresh energy” (Telluride Inside). This is High Country music. This is The Infamous Stringdusters.

The Infamous Stringdusters
nTelos Pavilion
Charlottesville, VA
May 12, 2012

The success of The Infamous Stringdusters over the past two years has been staggering. Through clutch decision making, hard work and an ardent fan base that has seen exponential growth, the band is now a highly tiered string music collective.

With a new album (Silver Sky)  and the recent lineup announcement for the band’s Festy Experience, it doesn’t seem that things will be changing anytime soon.

On this night and with home field advantage, The Stringdusters tore through Charlottesville as part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Sports 40th Anniversary party. Ripping through originals like “The Place That I Call Home” and covers like Phish’s “Free” alike, the packed show (that was also shown live on Honest Tune partner site, GrooveStreet.TV) was demonstrative of the fact that what the catalyst for success for The Stringdusters has really been… the music that they make.

The Infamous Stringdusters to deliver Silver Sky on March 13 ; launch spring tour

Today, The Infamous Stringdusters announce the release of their latest studio album, Silver Sky, set for national release on March 13th and is still available for pre-order through a unique pledge opportunity.

The album marks a period of massive change and growth within the band, as well as explosive growth to audiences around the country. This transition is audible on Silver Sky, with many novel approaches for the band including some alternative instrumentation (keys, horns, drums), a new producer, and the move to a five-piece band.

Since their last release, We’ll Do It Live, the acoustic string band has been moving away from their bluegrass beginnings, towards an eclectic, genre-less sound that powers their high-energy live performances. A key catalyst for this change is the Stringduster’s first outside-the-genre producer, Billy Hume, known more for his work in hip-hop (Nas, David Banner, Ludacris). Guitarist, Andy Falco comments, “Working with Billy has been simply amazing. “Human Being” (his Stringduster nickname) has been able to bring out yet another dimension to The Infamous Stringdusters’ music in the studio with his endless creative ideas, outside the box thinking and powerful mixes.”

Another major move has been going from a six-piece band to a five-piece (parting ways with founding mandolin player, Jesse Cobb). This has freed the band members to play more, to fill in the gaps without constriction of the mandolin’s traditional place emphasizing the rhythm. These two elements have lead to a looser and more energetic band on stage, in the studio and carried over to their business. Bringing more decisions and partners in-house, The Stringdusters recently formed their own record label, High Country Recordings, and have appealed to their growing fan base to help support their efforts. A newly-launched Pledge campaign offers the chance to invest in the band and gain some pretty cool experiences in return, such as dedicated songs from the stage, or live-video Skyping to a Stringdusters rehearsal session.

The early success of this campaign is a sure sign that the band is connecting with fans in the right way. Banjo player Chris Pandolfi noted, “Our fans are our friends. They’re as much a part of creating the experience as we are. It’s all about working together to make something awesome.”

And it’s this positive outlook that informs the album’s title, when asked what Silver Sky means to Travis Book, “The song’s about the potential of youth and the blossoming of the human spirit, inspired by a group of young musicians in Boston. This is a heavy time in the history of our country and our planet, change is in the air, but this is our time, our opportunity to do great things and experience life while we are alive. We can be and do whatever we want, the range of potential experiences is like no other time in history. Like a rocket streaking through a silver sky toward endless space, there’s almost limitless potential. That’s what we’re feeling as a group and what we’ve become about.”

The Stringdusters are planning the third year of their own music festival, The Festy Experience, already heralded as a “can’t miss” event by regional press and ‘Duster fans. Following a February tour with the Yonder Mountain String Band, The Stringdusters will headline their album release tour in March and April, and many major festivals throughout the Spring.

About The Infamous Stringdusters:

A collective of five musicians who each left successful slots in various touring bands, the Stringdusters, are essentially a supergroup. The band exploded onto the world in 2007 with critical acclaim, multiple IBMA awards and a record deal with venerable bluegrass label Sugar Hill. Hundreds of shows later, the band is on a trajectory as one of the fastest growing acoustic bands in the country, creating their own record label, successful music festival, and unique business model in the process.
