Andy Hall and Roosevelt Collier:  Let the Steel Play
Writer:  Kyler Klix

Not many musicians make a career out of the slide guitar, so music fans get a real treat with Let the Steel Play, the forthcoming album  from Andy Hall (Infamous Strindusters) and Roosevelt Collier (the Lee Boys). Mofro to host Blackwater Sol Revue

JJ Grey & MOFRO will perform live and host the 1st Annual Blackwater Soul Revue at the newly renovated St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, FL on Sunday, September 2.  This will be first public show at the theatre since undergoing a $3.5 million dollar upgrade.

The other artists on the bill, hand selected by Grey, include Los Lobos, Tony Joe White, The Lee Boys, The Legendary JC’s, Willie Green and Will Conner.

Grey describes the event and the line-up as only he can: “One day and one night of great music by people who possess distinctly regional flavor, and who sound like home in their own unique ways. All of this in a place inhabited by a spoonful of old school Spanish Minorcans, a dash of country fried Crackers, and a sprinkling of tourists from all over all of that stirred into a low country boil of beach, sun and bikinis in the oldest town in America.”

ChazzFest to be held in September

The Charleston Music & Heritage Festival, better known as ChazzFest Presented by Digital Lifestyle Outfitters, will be held September 22, 2007, and will feature a diverse schedule of musical genres and artists playing on four stages throughout the grounds of the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island.

“Consistent with the philosophy we established last year, we’re bringing an eclectic mix of artists, while celebrating our roots.” said ChazzFest promoter and partner Riddick Lynch.  “Even though we set the bar high in our inaugural year, we feel this lineup is stronger in terms of depth and breadth. We’re encouraging everyone to come early and stay late.”

Kicking off the Festival will be Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers, a Charleston institution with music from the roots of African-American Gospel music. Closing the Festival will be the co-headliners – jazz icon Branford Marsalis and funk / R&B legends Kool and the Gang.

In addition to those acts, the lineup for ChazzFest will feature: New Orleans jazz / funk rockers Galactic, reggae pioneer Toots & The Maytals, gospel star Dottie Peoples, alt-country rock act Son Volt, north Florida’s swamp boogie kings JJ Grey & Mofro, bluegrass stalwarts Seldom Scene, New Orleans’ hip-hop influenced Soul Rebels Brass Band and top sacred-steel ensemble The Lee Boys.  Beach music again will be well represented by heavyweights Chairmen of the Board and The Embers.  Rounding out the bill will be local acts Quiana Parler (of American Idol fame) & Friends, Uncle Mingo and Davis Coen.

Tickets are on sale now, available at select TicketMaster locations, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, through the Family Circle Tennis Center and by phone at 843-554-6060.  Advanced ticket prices are $75 for reserved seats in the lower bowl of the Stadium Court Stage, $50 for center upper deck reserved seats and $35 for General Admission tickets.  Advanced tickets for children ages 6-12 are $5, with children under age 6 admitted free.

Day-of event tickets will increase to $50 for General Admission tickets, $10 for children, $100 for lower bowl reserved and $75 for upper deck reserved, subject to availability.
