Jam Cruise 11 lineup revealed

For the past decade, Jam Cruise has been delivering a musical experience like no other. Whether it’s listening to a late night pool deck performance while sitting in a hot tub, hanging with 100 of your closest friends on a private tropical beach, delivering pallets of donated shoes to smiling children in need, or chatting with one of your musical heroes while your eating dinner – Jam Cruise is full of moments when you can’t help but stop and ask yourself “is this really happening?” But yes, it is happening, and it’s what has kept fans coming back again and again for over ten years.

Picked as a favorite by The Travel Channel in their US Music Festival Guide, Jam Cruise offers more than just a music festival. “By taking the music to the seas, Jam Cruise makes the music festival a full-blown vacation. When you set sail from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, enjoy all the amenities of a cruise and see your favorite jam bands while making stops in [exotic] locales.”

There is a feeling of being in another world on Jam Cruise, which this years sets sail from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 7th and returns on the 12th. With port stops in the beautiful Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, where crystal clear waters meet soft sandy beaches, and a stop at Coco Cay, a Private Island in the Bahamas, Jam Cruise lets you get away from it all in beautiful, remote locations. The music doesn’t stop in port though; Coco Cay will be host to a Beach Party highlighted by waterside musical performances.

The MSC Poesia remains home to Jam Cruise 11, where venues like the Zebra Bar, the Teatro Carlo Felice and the Pigalle feel like home to returning guests. Cabins go on sale to the public Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at noon EST. Anyone who pre-booked will be able to book a cabin prior to the general on sale according to their assigned booking time beginning on May 8, 2012 at www.JAMCRUISE.com.

On the Jam Cruise Scene with Keller, Anders, Col. Bruce, PGroove, 7 Walkers, Railroad Earth & John Oates

Over the years, we at Honest Tune have tried repeatedly to depict what happens year after year on the Cloud 9 annual adventure, Jam Cruise. We have shown photos, written lengthy reviews, gotten Grace Potter to tell sordid tales, and Greensky Bluegrass to admit to making a sprint out of a marathon. Yes, there is nothing quite like the boat.

Even with all of these previous attempts, we are back again. This time, with more photos (in addition to the photos that came out a couple of weeks ago) as well as a video with interview snippets from Col. Bruce, Keller Williams, Perpetual Groove’s Adam Perry and Albert Suttle, Papa Mali, Bill Kreutzmann, Railroad Earth & virgin cruiser, John Oates.

Intermingled with scene footage taken while aboard the ship as well a portion of an an exclusive acoustic performance of “Summertime in New Orleans” by Anders Osborne and a beautiful Irish folk violin outro provided by Tim Carbone, if this doesn’t bait you out to the high seas next Jam-uary, nothing will. So… if you were there, relive the experience. If you weren’t, watch and get your booty on the boat in 2013!

Media Onslaught: Part I of Honest Tune’s Jam Cruise 10 coverage…

Jam Cruise.

There’s so much magic in those two simple words. With ten sailings now in the books, the tradition that Cloud 9 Adventures never thought would last continues on.

For those who have never been, it is our intent here at Honest Tune to take you there over the coming weeks. Of course, there is nothing we can provide that will truly do the event justice, but through photos and videos our effort will be valiant.

Our first piece of coverage consists of every photo that Honest Tune editor David Shehi shot while on board, as well as two videos from a mind-blowing series. Yep, we are kicking things off in style.  As an aside, all of the photos are also available on Honest Tune’s Facebook page, so if you see yourself, stop by and tag yourself.

So sit back, find a quiet place, grab a drink, listen, watch and enjoy as we present “Live, Backstage and Unplugged w/ Papa Mali and 400 or so photos from one of the most splendid events in the live music arena.

And as always, stay (Honest) tuned for so much more to come…

Boxers or Briefs? A Galactic Parody presented by Honest Tune & Wakarusa

As part of our continued efforts to deliver some of the most compelling content within our scene, this year Honest Tune is joining hands with several events to bring our readers, viewers and listeners exclusive material that you will absolutely never see anywhere else. One of these events is Wakarusa.

Wakarusa is an event that has been held near and dear to the Honest Tune heart since its inception and this year, our role at the event will be even further than in years previous. Hence, the goodies that we will be bringing home from the festivities — that happen in Ozark, AR on May 31-June 3, 2011 — will sweeter than ever.

Leading up to the event, Honest Tune will occasionally be releasing some “outside the box” content from some of our favorite artists and friends. Fresh off the heels of Jam Cruise, we felt that it would be most appropriate to kick things off with a little something from Jam Cruise and funk-jam stalwarts that also happen to be a band that are close to our heart, Galactic.

Though Galactic is not on this year’s (amazing yet still not fully announced) Waka lineup bill, they definitely know the site, having played and hung out there on many occasions. So when asked, they were more than happy to join in on the fun.

Galactic also just so happens to be releasing a studio album in mid-February (Carnivale Electricos) and are subsequently launching a massive tour across the United States.

So sit back, relax, enjoy and (hopefully) laugh as we present Galactic: Boxers of Briefs?

Jam Cruise Artist Testimonials, Part Two: JJ Grey, Zach Deputy & Greensky Bluegrass (VIDEO)

jc header promo.jpgIt is a well known fact that we absolutely love Jam Cruise. Simply put, there really is nothing about the five day adventure that is not lovable. The sun in January, the vast and endless sea as a backdrop and sit-ins that literally only happen on Jam Cruise all make for an annual event that is in a league unto itself.  Of course all of this fails to mention the camaraderie  of the passengers.

Over the years, so many incredible talents have graced the decks and theatres of the various boats that Jam Cruise has called home. So with this upcoming sailing being the monumental tenth one, we thought that a series featuring artists (who have played on the boat) telling Jam Cruise stories and testifying to the event’s greatness would be appropriate.

In the first part of this series, we sat down with Michael Franti, Grace Potter, Cornmeal’s John-Paul Nowak, and the Everyone Orchestra’s Matt Butler. This time, JJ Grey, Zach Deputy and Greensky Bluegrass’ Anders Beck and Mike Devol all share their thoughts and memories from their time sailing the high seas of Jam Cruise.
