Beck: The Information

Falling thematically somewhere in between his Guero and Sea Change albums, Beck’s latest recording, The Information, continues to push the idiosyncratic singer/songwriter into newer, farther reaching directions.

Leading off with the funk-laced “Elevator Music,” Beck builds the song to a peak with layered rhythms and effects.

“Nausea” proves to be one of Beck’s most gripping tunes, pouring in an avalanche of sounds to accompany the hyper, crazed ramblings suitable to the composition’s title.

Always burning a new path for others to follow, Beck ends The Information on the dissonant, scrapbook style storytelling piece, “The Horrible Fanfare/ Landslide/ Exoskeleton.”  It is yet another tour de force performance by the enigmatic musician.
