If the name Smoke Fairies makes you envision female vocalists singing breathy, bluesy, English-y, almost madrigal songs, guess what? You’d be absolutely correct. But, the really cool thing is that their latest album, Blood Speaks, catches your ears and interest from the first song and holds you enthralled until the last notes fade away. So, you might say they cast a fairy-like spell over you. (Yes, I said it. I’m not proud, but I just couldn’t resist.)
Blood Speaks finds the duo of Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies crafting songs of love and living played with an earnestness that will leave you breathless. Their dual guitar work, along with the way their voices complement each other, propel songs like the title track, “Let Me Know†and “Take Me Down When You Go.â€
If you’re a fan of bands and artists like Blackmore’s Night, Kate Bush, Loreena McKinnett or early Sarah McLachlan, then Smoke Fairies and Blood Speaks are just your cup of tea.
Blood Speaks is out now on Year Seven Records.
