John Lisi & Delta Funk: Dead Cat Bounce

Super trio slam enlivens John Lisi & Delta Funk!'s ode to “old school throw down” on Dead Cat Bounce. Guitarist Lisi wanted Dead Cat to resemble the recordings of the Sun, Stax and Chess catalogues.

And, upon hiring Jimbo Mathus as bassist and producer along with North Mississippi Allstars veteran Cody Dickinson on skins, the result is an amalgam that resembles the bluesy funk and sway of a NMA disc.  From the heightened slide fusion pulse of "Flip Flops" to the world boogie rhythms of "Slow Down Sugar!" Lisi and company parlay simple R&B structures into greasy, driven, hellhound fury heaven.

Dickinson's powerhouse drumming style rubs up alongside Lisi's string bending acrobatics as Mathus' grounding bass lines elevate the band in pure ZZ Top style on the title track and “C'mon Down.” John Lisi & Delta Funk! take front porch jams like “Bad Luck Roy” to refined Southern blues rock glory on Dead Cat Bounce.
