Known to many as the lead guitarist for George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers, Jim Suhler spends most of his time fronting his veteran band Monkey Beat. Its latest release, Tijuana Bible (a name that represents an old-time pornographic comic book, which typically “starred” famous politicians, movie stars, or sports heroes of the day), contains 13 new original tracks, along with covers from AC/DC (“Up to My Next in You”), Elvin Bishop (“Drunken Hearted Boy”), and Rory Gallagher (“I Could’ve Had Religion”).
Bishop makes a guest appearance on the album, along with guitar wizard Joe Bonamassa and vocalist Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie. But it is Suhler that shines brightest, blending the best of rock, blues and Texas mythology to create an limitless fireworks approach to lead guitar that is truly his own.
Tijuana Bible is out now on Underworld Records.
