Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band : Renaissance Man

One half of the mighty Allman Brothers Band’s backbeat, Jaimoe has been propelling the band’s blues-laced jams for over four decades.

With Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, the drummer has gathered a like-minded set of musicians – Junior Mack on guitar and vocals, Dave Stoltz on bass, Bruce Katz on keyboards, and a party-time horn section – to delve into a set of originals and covers that swing with a jazz flow that underscores the group’s blues-rock leanings. Renaissance Man boasts stellar originals, like Mack’s “Drifting and Turning,” and Katz’s “Hippology,” which find a well-suited home alongside classic covers, such as John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk,” and Tony Joe White’s “Rainy Night in Georgia.” The Jasssz Band even tips its hat to Jaimoe’s full-time job with a fresh reading of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Melissa.”

There are few surprises on Renaissance Man, unless you consider Junior Mack. He is a musical force whose songwriting and playing is a fine match with Jaimoe’s style. Despite the name of this project, Mack makes it all his own.

Renaissance Man is ouw on lil’Johnieboy Records.
