Enter here for your chance to win signed Mike Gordon merch: ‘Moss’ and tour poster

mikecontest1.jpgWhat can we say? We simply love giving stuff away and do so as much and as often as possible. While giveaways are fun in and of themselves, we like to participate in ones that mean something to us as well. This said, we have definitely got one for you that means just as much to us as it probably will to you.

For the past two years there has been a lot to celebrate in the Phish community. First and foremeost, the guys are making music together again and have recently announced the first leg of 2011 summer tour. On top of that though, Trey Anastasio has toured with Classic TAB and written a symphony and Mike has released two albums, The Green Sparrow and most recently, Moss. Mike is currently on his second tour in support for the latter with band members Scott Murawski, Todd Isler, Craig Myers, and Tom Cleary.

Cactus has just wrapped up a thorough bassing of the south and Honest Tune was on the scene in Nashville. We did not come back empty handed. Rather, we returned with not one, but two pieces of memorabilia to give to you, or readers, who give this whole journalistic endeavor its purpose.

The Goods

1) One winner will walk away with a limited edition poster (#33/75) signed by the Cactus himself. To go with it, we snagged the 2nd set’s setlist, though it is not accurate.  Let’s just say that the art of improvisation has been anything but lost by Gordo’s quintet and setlists serve as more of a guide with these skilled plyers. Regardless, it would make for an amazing addition to a framed piece on your wall.

2) The other winner be given a signed copy of Mike’s latest recorded endeavor, the aforementioned Moss. The album that he/she will receive is pressed on 180 gram clear vinyl. It truly is a beauty. Since it might be wise to keep this one off of your turn table, there is also a code for a free mp3 download included with the record.

How to Enter

1) “Like” Mike’s Facebook page (if for some strange reason you haven’t already) then log on to Honest Tune’s Facebook page to tell us your “best/most memorable Cactus experience” as a comment in the OFFICIAL CONTEST THREAD. Anything will do… from the first time you heard the bass intro to “Down with Disease” to chatting with Mike on his bicycle at Oswego to your favorite hotline message or best read from Mike’s Corner from Doniac Schvice.  If this doesn’t work, submit your best IDEA in tribute to the final track on Moss. Seriously, just tell us something.

2) The contest will end on 3/27/11 at 11:59PM EST, the day after Mike closes out this current run at South Burlington’s Higher Ground.

3) As with the Keller contest and the Jam Cruise contest, all names will be put in a box, hat, or whatever is handy and the winners will be announced via a YouTube video on this channel and via Facebook.

In the meantime, we hope you are all enjoying getting BASSED from coast-coast.

Enter here for your chance to win a signed copy of Keller’s KIDS

We have to admit it, we love contests. It is our small way of saying thanks to you, the members of our Honest Tune family, for your continued support through the years. For this contest, there will be no surveys or other annoying requirements. We just need you to show up and login to your Facebook accounts and comment in the OFFICIAL KELLER WILLIAMS CONTEST THREAD. Any comment will do but please refrain from too many expletives…”KIDS” are present.

Casey & Lyle Shehi with Keller & Ella Louise Williams
(Ella co-wrote “The Fastest Song in the World”)

To us, this is a special contest because we simply love this album, Keller Williams’ Kids, as do our children (for those of us parents on staff). Seriously how can one go wrong with his/her kid in the car singing along with Keller to “Mama Tooted” or any of the other gems that can be found on this marvelous record? And the best thing is that the album is pure fun even if the little ones aren’t in the backseat.

Back in December, Honest Tune Managing Editor Josh Mintz wrote a column about the blessed experience of listening to Kids with his children saying “songs like ‘Car Seat,’ ‘Keep It On The Paper’ and ‘Taking A Bath’ aren’t metaphors – the words mean what they mean, and my son understands the lyrical content. But, they’re fun whether you’re 8 or 80.” This past weekend, Honest Tune Live Music Editor David Shehi took his family to the live Kids event in Atlanta. The review is coming soon, but it is safe to say that they had a blast.

So just to be sure that we are on the same page, you are entering to win a signed copy of Keller Williams’ Kids. In order to enter, simply log on to Honest Tune’s Facebook page and write in the aforementioned thread. All names will be placed in a hat and one will be drawn just as it was with the Jam Cruise contest. Maybe we can get another kid to draw the name this time around. The deadline for entry is 3/4/11 at 11:59 PM CST. And for good measure, head over to this page for a free download of “Car Seat.” Good luck and happy listening!

Enter here for chance to win signed Phil Lesh Spring 2001 Tour Poster

We are pleased to announce a great contest and opportunity for our readers. One lucky and talented reader will soon have a fine new addition to his/her wall: A signed poster from Phil Lesh and Friends’ Spring 2001 tour.

Known as PLQ, the Phil Lesh Quintet (2000-2003) is regarded by many to be one of the best post-Grateful Dead ensembles. Consisting of Jimmy Herring, Warren Haynes, John Molo, and Rob Barraco, this unit was also the only Phil & Friends lineup to produce an album, There and Back Again.

We are excited for whoever walks away with this poster.

Enter here for your chance to win EOTO Tickets

P1010492-copy.jpgMichael Travis and Jason Hann of EOTO seemingly never leave the road. With forty dates on their current tour plus their Hulaween residence at Hampton Coliseum with their other band, The String Cheese Incident, their aggressive schedule is tough to match. One thing is clear about this duo – they garner a sense of joy through the creation of completely improvised live music. Over their short tenure, EOTO has amassed a devoted fan base who flock to see them at each and every stop to relax in trance, shake in dance, and to just see which direction the music will take next. Currently on tour, these fine young lads are making another statement:  they want to see you, the Honest Tune readers at their shows to the point that they are willing to give two very lucky readers a chance to win a pair of tickets to any show on the tour of their choosing. But first, you must do a few very simple things to qualify.
