Dead.net offers free Grateful Dead download a day and more

bobweir.jpg

Dead.net is on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of their appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, they’re giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That’s 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? They’re also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.

You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C’s, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70’s show? Each day we’ll post a free download from one of the Dead’s coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in ’93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen’s harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you’ve answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set.

For more info, head on over to Dead.net to learn more.

P1010492-copy.jpgMichael Travis and Jason Hann of EOTO seemingly never leave the road. With forty dates on their current tour plus their Hulaween residence at Hampton Coliseum with their other band, The String Cheese Incident, their aggressive schedule is tough to match. One thing is clear about this duo – they garner a sense of joy through the creation of completely improvised live music. Over their short tenure, EOTO has amassed a devoted fan base who flock to see them at each and every stop to relax in trance, shake in dance, and to just see which direction the music will take next. Currently on tour, these fine young lads are making another statement:  they want to see you, the Honest Tune readers at their shows to the point that they are willing to give two very lucky readers a chance to win a pair of tickets to any show on the tour of their choosing. But first, you must do a few very simple things to qualify.

Dancing Globally: Highlights from Festival International

The 23rd annual Festival International de Louisiane was billed as 500 artists from 15 countries on six stages. You can throw in "along with lots of fried goodness" to that tag line, and you would have an idea of what happens in Lafayette, La., for five days during April.

Festival International began in 1986 as a visual and performing arts festival celebrating the French cultural heritage of southern Louisiana – primarily a combination of French, African, Caribbean and Hispanic influences. The largest outdoor, free Francophone event in the U.S., the festival places special emphasis on highlighting the connections between Acadiana and the Francophone world.

This year, Louisiana native Marc Broussard was the headliner for Thursday night. Though many rumors swirled as to the identity of his "surprise guest," it ended up being not Dave Matthews, but his father, Louisiana Hall of Fame guitarist Ted Broussard, plus female vocalists from Chic Gamine of Manitoba, Canada and Lafayette native Roddie Romero.

Clapton, Winwood Announce 14 City US Tour

After a stunning collaboration at the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival in July of 2007 and much speculation, Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton announced three eagerly anticipated concerts at New York‘s Madison Square Garden. Those shows featured the artists performing a set list of Blind Faith classics as well as solo hits from each artist. Many acclaimed the shows as historic and some of the best Clapton Winwood work of their illustrious careers (to see Honest Tune’s review, go to http://74.124.197.135/~honesttune/content/view/808/29/ ).  The three nights at Madison Square Garden were such a success that the Clapton and Winwood have announced an exclusive 14 city U.S. tour beginning June 10, 2009.
